Edinburgh: Day 8

Plan of the Day: On our last day enjoy a drive to the country side to get a tour and tasting at Glenkinchie Distillery, lastly, dinner at the Top Hat House.

Glenkinchie Distillery

Glenkinchie proudly serves as one of the Four Corners of Scotland distilleries of Johnnie Walker, representing the Lowland home of this iconic blend. This part of Scotland features whiskies of a milder, more delicate nature than the peaty brands from further north. It comes down to the heat sauces, as described by our very enthusiastic host.

Inside Tour

For about an hour and a half, we were treated to an extensive tour of the facility, uncovering every nook and cranny along the way. To officially kick off the tour, Karen rang a huge bell—much like those found aboard ships. It was large, loud, and commanding. Karen gave it two powerful swings of the clapper, amplifying the volume with impressive force. I told her to imagine ringing the Commanding Officer aboard a ship, and she nailed it with authority and enthusiasm. A truly memorable moment that set the tone for the adventure ahead!

Outside

Part of the tour took us outside.

Tasting

Tasting consisted of 3 whisky’s (yes…no E’s in whiskey in Scotland, otherwise known as Scotch for the rest of us).
