Exploring Costa Rica’s Natural Wonders (Road Scholar)
During the exchange of our wedding vows, I told Karen “Hang on. This is going to be a great adventure”. Only later did she let me know that a friend defined adventure as misery in retrospect that comes with a great story. Come join us, as we journey around the world exploring, sharing our travels, some adventuresome, others not so much.
We are a retired couple living in San Diego California. I have always had this crazy idea of visiting 100 countries. By the time I retired from active duty in 2008, I had seen 69 countries thanks to the US Navy. Being a flight engineer on larger aircraft I flew Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and cargo around the world. Karen and I married in 2004 and it was my goal to share travel and more, while I tried to achieve my goal of visiting 100 countries. Most of our wanderlust centers around wine, food, adventure, and history. And we qualify a visit as at least more than stepping foot in an airport, and there should be food or drink involved.
Karen and I are now at 20+ years of travel adventures, but my documentation is way behind. The plan (hope?) is to share new adventures in a timely manner, and along the way I will try adding some stories and photos of older visits, and a few adventures. We have been to some amazing places and I look forward to sharing both the old and new.
Our latest adventure takes us to Costa Rica on another Road Scholar trip. Once again Road Scholar performed beyond our expectation. Most of our fellow travelers were a birder at some level. Karen and I were just “want-a-be’s”. Our guide and RS coordinator, Katherine Rojas was a true professional. Her bird and animal knowledge beyond reproach. Even our bus driver, xxx, another expert birder. Then include most of our travelers were great birders as well. Come join us on our latest adventure.
A busy year it was in 2025 and 2026 is heading that way.
